Climbing Grading Systems

We use two systems for grading climbs at Adrenaline Climbing.

The Yosemite Decimal Scale for Auto Belay/Top Rope/Lead Climbing and the Hueco/V Scale for Bouldering

To follow the Graded System in Adrenaline Climbing climbers follow the same colored climbing holds with both hands and feet from the denoted start hold/holds to the top hold/marked end hold/holds.

The tape color under the start hold/holds denotes the difficulty of each climb.

The charts below go up in numerical order following the scale, each number higher on the scale is another grade harder of climbing. A myriad of factors go in to determining how difficult a climb is, at Adrenaline Climbing we do our best to align our grades with the outdoor climbing grades of surrounding outdoor climbing areas in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and North Carolina.

Take a look at our Grade Charts and climbing wall examples below to better understand our Grading System at Adrenaline Climbing.

This is a picture of our amphitheater bouldering area. There are many bouldering problems/climbs in the photo but we will talk about the ones that are highlighted.

The green problem/climb is marked with red tape to denote the grade of VB and the start of the problem/climb. Since there are two marked holds a climber would start with a hand on each of those holds. The climber would follow only the green holds with their hands and feet to the denoted end holds securing both of them completes the climb.

The blue problem/climb has a single hold marked with orange tape to denote the grade V7 and start of the problem/climb. Following all the blue holds with hands and feet to the denoted end holds completes this climb.

As you can see there are many more problems on the wall, but this is how to make sense of all the different colored holds on the wall and begin following the problems/climbs.

As with the examples on the bouldering section above notice the marked starts in this example. The major difference with our markings at Adrenaline Climbing on the Rope Climbing Areas is that the ends are not denoted. The end hold is always the high…
