"The A Team"
NEW: SUMMER PRACTICE HOURS! 6:30 TO 8:30, Tuesday & Thursday.
A note from the Coaches:
We are deeply committed to our youth climbing team. Climbing develops character and strength that will last a lifetime. On the A Team, you'll have opportunities for adventure and self exploration that you cannot find in any other arena. If you love climbing, and you are internally motivated to train, you will become the best you can be here.
Rock climbing is a sport that demands the highest level of personal integrity. Climbers must take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of their teammates. School comes first. Climbers on the A Team must meet their parents' expectations of school performance at all times. Climbers are expected to exhibit exemplary sportsmanship, humanity, respect for self and others, and discipline. Climbers must participate in all team-sponsored volunteer service projects. We expect team climbers to attend every practice, as the training builds upon itself throughout the season. Practices missed should be made up with your coach. Climbers age 10 and older are expected to belay their teammates. Parents are expected to belay climbers ages 7 through 9. It should go without saying, but alcohol or drug use will not be tolerated.
Our goal is to support the growth of the whole, multi-faceted person, not only to coach climbing. We believe it is also our job, as your coaches, to help you to "ascend" beyond your own expectations all along the way. We believe in guidance along with self-discovery.
We have several team options:
The competitive climbing season follows the academic school year. The bouldering season is from September to January; and the route climbing season is from January to June. However, competitive climbers train year-round. Interested climbers may join at any time. Most, but not all, members of the team choose the competitive circuit. If you have the drive and the commitment to learn for yourself, you'll become a strong climber.
For more information about what underlies our youth climbing program, please read Coach Trey's article, "Problem Solving in the Vertical World," in the Atlanta Jewish Times. In it, Trey talks more about the positive side-effects of climbing.
BY INVITATION ONLY
You may be eligible for a FREE two-week trial membership on the A Team. During the trial, a coach will observe your initial climbing style, and offer you feedback. Please call 770-271-1390 to arrange an initial meeting and to explore a trial membership.
Team fees are $100 per month. Fees include unlimited access to climbing in the gym. If your child competes in the USA Climbing and/or American Bouldering Series competition circuit, membership in those organizations will be required. Also, you can expect competition fees at each facility and travel costs. If your child attends a summer camp with us, there is NO CHARGE for training during the month in which the camp session is offered. Additionally, teenage A Team climbers pay only $5 for After Hours Teen Night admission. Team members are expected to obtain their own climbing equipment and climbing shoes, but can rent gear from us until they get their own. Other perks include climbing with your coaches outdoors, monthly.
